Sony Electronics Inc.’s lidar depth sensor, which is claimed to be the smallest and lightest sensor in the sector, is available now.

Designed for use in autonomous mobile robots, guide vehicles and inspection drones, the AS-DT1 lidar sensor is housed in a compact, aluminum enclosure for integration.

Measuring 29 mm x 29 mm x 31 mm, the sensor is powered by direct time of flight (dToF) lidar technology and a single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensor. The sensor can accurately measure 3D distance even in low contrast and low reflectivity objects.

The sensor has a range of up to 40 meters indoors and 20 meters outdoors under bright conditions.
