AOI system for THT PCB assembly and inspection

04 November 2025

With the new 11XX series, GÖPEL Electronic presents an advanced version of its automated optical inspection (AOI) system Multi Line Assist. This solution for assembly assistance and optical inspection at through-hole technology (THT) assembly stations now offers innovative MagicLight technology, which ensures high-contrast test images, reliable failure detection and consistently pleasant working conditions.

Multi Line Assist is used both at manual THT assembly stations and in automated production lines. It Source: GÖPEL ElectronicSource: GÖPEL Electronic projects assembly instructions directly into the worker's field of vision, significantly reducing assembly times. An integrated AOI module checks the placement of components either after each step or at the end of the assembly process and reliably detects errors such as incorrect polarity, missing components, or deviations in color and labeling. All results are documented and can be statistically evaluated and forwarded to MES systems.

At the heart of the 11XX series is the new MagicLight technology. It combines top and side lighting with coded light, making even hard-to-see features such as polarity marks or embossed lettering reliably visible. Distracting reflections are avoided. The lighting can be switched without flashing. The influence of extraneous light is reduced by up to 50%. In addition, the image brightness can be flexibly adjusted without changing the workplace lighting — a significant advantage for employees.

The Multi Line Assist of the 11XX series is available in three versions: as a complete solution with a height-adjustable assembly table, as a tabletop system for retrofitting existing workstations and as an integration module. All core components are combined in the basic module, which facilitates installation and reduces space requirements. The software is based on the proven PILOT AOI platform, which enables rapid test program generation based on CAD data.

“With the new 11XX series and MagicLight technology, we are making THT assembly more efficient, safer and more future-proof,” explained Andreas Türk, product manager for inspection systems. “Our customers benefit from shorter training times, higher quality, and better process stability.”

With the further development of Multi Line Assist, GÖPEL Electronic is setting another milestone in the direction of digitalization and the smart factory.
