A new robot capable of autonomously laying bricks has been developed and tested by Australia’s FBR Limited.
The Hadrian bricklaying robot, which is mounted into a classic cab-over-engine truck for easy transportation from and to the site, reportedly laid more than 285 blocks per hour during trials.

According to its developers, the robot comes equipped with proprietary software that transforms wall designs into block positions, thereby reducing material handling and waste. The robot also features dynamic stabilization technology that corrects movement and vibration in real-time, which enables Hadrian to lay blocks precisely.
With a reach of 105 feet, the Hadrian can lay blocks weighing up to 99 pounds with ease. The team explained that the maximum block size of the bricks the Hadrian can lay can go up to 23 ⅝ inches x 15 ¾ inches x 11 ¾ inches.
At peak performance, the robot is capable of laying up to 360 blocks per hour. During trials, the robot built a 751-block structure at an effective rate of more than 285 blocks per hour.
The team added that the Hadrian can be operated by two individuals — one Hadrian operator and a telehandler operator — and it can withstand winds up to 37.3 miles per hour, can work in light rain and it uses Fastbrick Adhesive as a bonding agent.
Designed to be used for residential builds, townhouse developments, commercial projects and childcare centers, the Hadrian robot promises to boost productivity, reduce waste and deliver projects faster.
