Consumer electronics giant Apple is potentially testing a new line of devices as part of a major push into the smart home market.

According to Bloomberg, the company is looking at adding a Ring-like doorbell as well as smart cameras and smart locks into a suite of connected devices.

Codenamed J450, the smart devices would compete against the stalwarts in the smart home space and would work with Apple HomePod.

According to the report, the smart cameras would work both indoors and outdoors with features like:

  • Facial recognition
  • Infrared sensors
  • Motion and occupancy detection
  • Turn lights on/off

Additionally, Apple may be looking to update its HomePod with a monitor to function as a home hub that would work with its new smart home device lineup.

Just recently, UltraLoq unveiled a new smart lock that allows users to unlock their home with an Apple iPhone or Apple Watch. Apple’s own smart lock would presumably work in a similar way and work with iCloud.
