GlobalFoundries has completed its acquisition of artificial intelligence (AI) and processor intellectual property (IP) vendor MIPS.
Under the deal, GF will strengthen its semiconductor manufacturing by enhancing its capabilities in:
- AI
- Edge computing
- Other high growth markets
Originally announced in July of 2025, the combination of technologies will allow GF to deliver differentiated solutions to meet the growing demand for computing at the edge and beyond, GlobalFoundries said.
MIPS will operate as a standalone business inside GF. This will allow it to maintain its licensing model and focus on bringing IP to more sectors.
