Applied Materials, Apple, TI partner to strengthen Texas chip supply chain

Texas-based Applied Materials Inc. will help to bolster the semiconductor manufacturing supply chain in the state by working with Texas Instruments (TI) and Apple to supply chipmaking equipment to TI’s U.S.-based factories.

Additionally, Applied Materials will invest more than $200 million in the establishment of an Arizona facility for manufacturing critical components for chip equipment. This will build on Applied Material’s $400 million investment that the company has invested in equipment manufacturing infrastructure in the past five years.

The Chandler, Arizona, facility will produce chip equipment components and parts. It will support potentially 200 manufacturing, R&D and services jobs in the semiconductor field.

Apple said the partnership with Applied Materials is part of its $600 billion commitment to U.S. manufacturing in the next four years.

“Strengthening America’s semiconductor leadership has never been more important than in today’s AI era, and we are honored to work alongside industry leaders to strengthen the U.S. chip supply chain,” said Gary Dickerson, president and CEO of Applied Materials.

In its Austin, Texas, facility, Applied Materials plays a role in producing advanced semiconductor equipment and accelerating product commercialization. The facility is equipped with an automated robotics storage system.

“Applied Materials' new advanced manufacturing facility will further bolster Arizona's robust semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen U.S. supply chain resiliency,” said Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “Across important areas such as equipment, R&D, and workforce training, Applied has been a tremendous industry partner, and we're grateful for their continued leadership and commitment to Arizona.”
