Designed to expand its reach into data centers, Qualcomm is set to acquire Alphawave Semi, a maker of intellectual property (IP), custom silicon, connectivity products and chiplets.
Under the proposed $2.4 billion deal, Alphawave Semi’s portfolio will be matched with Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors for high-performance, low-power computing targeted at increasing artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing and the transition to custom CPUs in data centers.
Qualcomm said Alphawave Semi’s products form part of a core infrastructure for next-generation services in applications such as:
- Data centers
- AI
- Data networking
- Data storage
“By combining our resources and expertise, we will be well-positioned to expand our product offerings, reach a broader customer base, and enhance our technological capabilities,” said Tony Pialis, president and CEO of Alphawave Semi. “Together, we will unlock new opportunities for growth, drive innovation, and create a leading player in AI compute and connectivity solutions.”
The transaction is expected to be completed in the first calendar quarter of 2026 subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
