Video: HyperloopTT completes hyperloop study in Brazil

11 March 2025

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT) has completed what it claims is the world’s first HyperPort feasibility study in Brazil, showing the transportation system as a potential alternative for cargo and shipping logistics.

In a collaboration with EGA Group and LabTrans at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the goal is to provide a transportation system that is sustainable but that will also help meet the demand that is rising in the country for shipping and cargo.

The study found the potential for:

  • A 341-mile route connecting the Port of Santos to São Paulo
  • A two-way system transporting 5,600 TEUs per day at 370 mph
  • The ability to bypass environmentally sensitive areas
  • A reduction in highway congestion
  • A reduction in carbon emissions
  • A reduction in pavement wear

According to HyperloopTT, Brazil is expanding as a global shipping hub and the HyperPort system can help with the challenges of future shipping demand. Major infrastructure projects are helping but with continued growth, the country will face logistical bottlenecks that will require a longer-term solution, the company said.

The HyperPort system can offer increases in capacity and then scale the operations using carbon emissions and optimizing logistics.
