Short-range radar startup Novelic is introducing a 180° field of view (FOV) radar module at CES 2025, a device that can be used for parking assistance that will fully replace ultrasonic sensors.

Called the ASPER200, the module is a 79 GHz short-range exterior radar for use in passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, mass transit and construction vehicles.

Other features of the ASPER200 include:

  • Lateral awareness
  • Range of less than 5 cm to 15 m-100 m, depending on configuration
  • Optional edge processing
  • CAN-FD or automotive Ethernet
  • Not impaired by fog, dirt or mud

How it works

Traditional park assist systems require cutouts in the bumper to accommodate ultrasonic sensors. Radar-based park assist can be integrated behind or above the bumper and offers detection of low-lying objects of less than 5 cm, the company said.

This allows automotive OEMs to provide functionality like power door protection, tailgate protection and gesture control using the same hardware.

The park assistance technology includes:

  • Rear and front collision warning, with target tracking
  • 360° surround awareness
  • Kick-to-open
  • Tailgate and power door protection
  • Urban blind spot detection (BSD)
  • Rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA)
  • Rear automatic emergency braking (R-AEB)

CES 2025 takes place Jan. 7-10, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
