The expansion by third-party charging vendor EVgo and General Motors to install electric vehicle (EV) ports in major cities has surpassed the 2,000 stall mark, a milestone that includes more than 390 locations in 45 markets across 32 states.
The news comes as GM continues to push its own home-grown EV charging network despite a perceived slowdown in EV momentum. The company not only is establishing its own EV charging network but is expanding the collaboration with EVgo with plans to expand its DC fast charging stalls to a total of 2,850 with locations in major cities.
Additionally, earlier this year GM finalized its deal with Tesla Motors to allow GM drivers to use the Supercharger network. This will give GM drivers access to over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers using an NACS DC adapter.
Among the 2,000 EV charging stalls, the locations include:
- Grocery stores
- Retail centers
- City centers
- Multifamily dwellings
The 2,000 stall is part of a newly opened station located in Murrieta, California, off the 215 freeway. This station offers amenities nearby such as retail shopping, coffee shops and dining destinations. The stall was part of an award funded by the state of California under the FAST program from the California Energy Commission.
