MWC 2024: Skyworks, Samsung collaborate for next-generation 5G modems

27 February 2024

Skyworks Solution Inc. and Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd. have entered a strategic partnership to integrate Skyworks’ SKY5 transceiver-to-antenna radio frequency front-end (RFFE) into the next generation 5G modem platforms.

Under the deal, unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2024, the platform would provide integration of 5G connectivity across multiple frequency bands and modes. This allows for optimizing performance, power efficiency and design flexibility, the companies said.

The solution will support a wide range of 5G applications like:

  • Mobile broadband
  • Ultra-reliable low-latency communications
  • Massive machine-type communications

"The synergy between Skyworks' industry-leading RF front-end (RFFE) solutions and Samsung's cutting-edge RF & modem technologies will significantly contribute to the development of next-generation modem platforms optimized for 5G Terrestrial Networks (TN) and Non-terrestrial Networks (NTN) communications," said Joonhoi Hur, vice president of the RF Development Team at Samsung Electronics.

MWC 2024 takes place this week in Barcelona, Spain.
