Robotics-as-a-service may seem like an idea in the far future, but Rapid Robotics is implementing the idea already.
The idea of robotics-as-a-service is to implement robotics in the manufacturing or industrial space without having the massive investment that might be required to get a program up and running.
Additionally, with robotics-as-a-service:
- There is no need to hire additional robot operators or programmers.
- Lead times are shorter than buying a system.
Implementation of a unit could take up to nine months alone, not to mention waiting for off-the-shelf parts to be available in some cases, Rapid Robotics said. In robotics-as-a-service, it could be a matter of weeks to implement a robot in a factory or warehouse.
In this video, IMTS+ demonstrates a case study where Rapid Robotics is pairing a cobot with an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven vision system from vendor Elementary to solve a QC or pick-and-place problem.
