A few months ago, Electronics360 reported on a new 5G emulation solution for the widely used Viavi TM500 network test platform aimed specifically at testing reduced capability (RedCap) wireless devices. Now, Viavi is back with another milestone in its goal of accelerating adoption of Open RAN: XhaulAdvisor, which the company says is the first solution in the market to feature real-time analytics.

As a scalable software solution offering real-time data for fronthaul verification, analysis, emulation and channel utilization, XhaulAdvisor can enable Open RAN vendors, operators and OTIC labs to accelerate interoperability testing (IOT), end-to-end testing and troubleshooting. Vendors and operators can use XhaulAdvisor to rapidly and accurately correlate test anomalies to network events and troubleshoot fronthaul and transport timing, packet flows and channel utilization, as well as analyze M-plane, S-plane and C/U-plane sessions.
The XhaulAdvisor can also be integrated with other Viavi tools that may already be present in a test bed, such as TM500 and TeraVM. This translates to more rapid troubleshooting and root cause analysis, as well as flagging and isolation of issues caused by RAN, transport or synchronization functions.
Viavi adds that various operation modes are available to fit unique application needs, from setup in passive or through mode to analysis in live or post-capture environments. Synchronization can be achieved from open fronthaul or an external timing source. Providing operational flexibility, the solution can be deployed on commercial off-the-shelf hardware.
