Keysight Technologies Inc. has introduced a small, four-channel vector signal generator capable of signal generation up to 8.5 GHz with 960 MHz of modulation bandwidth per channel.

Called the N5186A MXG, the signal generator offers multiple, complex signals needed for dense wideband multichannel applications. Wireless communications and radar applications demand new complex modulation schemes like MIMO, beamforming and multiplexing for data throughput.

To test these applications requires signal generation instruments for modulation at greater bandwidths. The Keysight N5186A MXG does this by reducing external connections and up to four channels in a compact 2U form factor. Keysight said the device delivers accurate signals to the device under test (DUT).

Other features include:

  • Employs DDS DAC proprietary technology
  • Embedded reflectometer
  • Low phase noise
  • Saves up to 75% rack height
  • Employs direct digital synthesis DAC for bandwidth coverage

The vector signal generator is a solution for a range of commercial and aerospace defense applications due to its DAC ASIC that uses DDS to deliver signals to minimize distortion. It also meets evolving standards for component and module design, Keysight said.
