Silicon Labs has unveiled its Series 3 platform designed for embedded internet of things (IoT) devices on a 22-nm process node.
The company also announced its latest developer tool suite called Simplicity Studio, which separates configuration and analysis tools from the integrated development environment (IDE) while providing seamless development. This allows developers to use IDEs on the market while being able to use the productivity tools.
Series 3 on the 22 nm process node will help with IoT devices that need more processing power at the far edge -- applications like IoT sensors, cameras, blood glucose monitors and anything that is portable, secure and compute intensive.
The Series 3 technology platform is designed to make IoT devices:
- More secure
- More intelligent
- More power-efficient
- More scalable
The move to 22 nm, leveraging non-volatile memories and off-the-shelf IP blocks, will open new foundry options as the company plans to produce more chips in foundries in different regions including the U.S. and Europe, Silicon Labs said.
