Silicon Labs has rolled out a dual-band FG28 system-on-chip (SoC) designed for long-range networks and protocols such as Amazon Sidewalk, Wi-SUN and others.
The dual-band semiconductor includes radios for sub-gigahertz and 2.4 GHz Bluetooth LE as well as a built-in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) accelerator. The device can serve as a battery-operated end node in smart cities for applications such as:
- Location detector for dumpsters
- Irrigation systems in farms
- Livestock trackers
- Health monitors on ranches
Bluetooth connectivity allows the semiconductor to be deployed on the network but also enables operators to connect locally for diagnostics, data downloads and more, Silicon Labs said.
The FG28 SoC features:
- 1024 kB of flash storage
- 256 kB of RAM
- Secure Vault Mid and High support
- Up to 49 GPIO pins
- Radio core with low active and sleep currents
