Nordic Semiconductor has shown the upcoming Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT) feature in silicon in a video demonstration.
Nordic claims it is one of the first vendors to demonstrate support for the Bluetooth feature. Bluetooth HDT is designed to increase data rates while also improving energy efficiency and connection reliability, according to industry organization Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). This would apply to use cases like audio, data transfer, localization and device networking, the SIG said.
Nordic said Bluetooth HDT will enable wearables, smart home devices, PC accessories, hearing aids and other Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices to transfer data significantly faster.
The technology is expected for release in late 2026 by the SIG with new ways for the radio to pack more data into each transmission as well as support for longer packets for higher bandwidth Bluetooth data transfer.
Nordic said it will demonstrate the technology at the upcoming Electronica 2026, taking place in Munich, Germany, on November 10 to 13, 2026.
