Semtech Corp. has introduced the latest chipset in its PerSe portfolio that senses human proximity and enables end devices such as smartphones to integrate radio frequency (RF) antenna control.

Called the SX9376, the chipset is optimized for RF performance and to enhance connectivity as well as comply with global specific absorption rate (SAR) standards for 5G-enabled consumer devices.

The PerSe intelligent sensors enable automatic adjustment of system level RF emissions for devices such as smartphones, tablets, hotspots and laptops.

Semtech said the global 5G market is expected to grow at a 47.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) with a market value of $198.4 billion. To bring future 5G-enabled products to market, OEMs need more RF antennas to address global SAR compliance and accurately manage a device’s RF power.

Features of the chipset include:

  • Eight sensor inputs for multiple antenna support
  • High resolution analog front end down to 0.74aF
  • Supports antenna design up to 600 pF capacitance
  • Temperature correction to minimize false triggers caused by noise and temperature
  • Fully integrated solution for SAR sensing needs
