Drone delivery vendor Flytrex has released its 2022 data based on its service in North Carolina and Texas and the most popular items that were delivered throughout the year.

Flytrex delivered more than 85,000 items by drone across 21,350 orders in 2022. It took an average of about 3 minutes and 32 seconds from takeoff to delivery. The company had more than 4,000 unique deliveries in 2022, a 765% increase from 2021.

Popular food

In terms of food, the most drone deliveries were for sandwiches, salads and chicken wings. The top three dishes via Flytrex’s app were fries, turkey sandwiches and burrito bowls.

The most popular packaged items were bananas, sports drinks and milk.

“The drone delivery industry as a whole has progressed immensely over the past year, and this snapshot is a testament to its soaring future,” said Yariv Bash, CEO and co-founder of Flytrex. “Building on this momentum, we look forward to expanding our service and eventually providing the same level of quality practicality across suburban America.”

Popular groceries

Among the deliveries by drone in 2022 for grocery items, consumers ordered more fresh produce by far among any other items.

The second most requested item was dairy and eggs followed by pantry items. Meats, breads, beverages and frozen food were also high on the list in 2022.

Expanding services

Earlier this year, Flytrex through its aviation partner Causey Aviation Unmanned (CAU) was granted the Standard Part 135 Air Carrier Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It is one of only a handful of companies to receive this certification.

The certification allows Flytrex to operate and complete long-range on-demand commercial drone deliveries in the U.S. Additionally, the certification allows Flytrex and CAU to expand drone delivery service nationwide for food, drinks and other goods to more than 82 million eligible consumers.

This comes after Flytrex got approved in July of 2022 to expand drone delivery services up to two nautical miles, potentially reaching about 100,000 eligible customers across its operating services.

The company operates services in Granbury, Texas, as well as four cities in North Carolina: Durham, Fayetteville, Raeford and Holly Springs.
