Online tool tests SiC power solutions in design phase

11 April 2023

A new tool helps power design engineers evaluate silicon carbide (SiC) power devices and modules from Microchip Technology across various topologies before committing a design to hardware.

Users of the MPLAB SiC Power Simulator can benchmark and evaluate SiC solutions in the design phase. The complimentary online tool can speed time to market by delivering a comprehensive SiC assessment that alsoSource: Microchip TechnologySource: Microchip Technology reduces component selection times. This simulator represents a critical design tool for original equipment manufacturers designing power systems for e-mobility, sustainability and industrial applications that include electric vehicles, on/off-board charging, power supplies and battery storage systems.

In weighing and comparing the merits of a 25 mΩ and 40 mΩ SiC metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor for a three-phase active front end converter, designers can secure immediate simulation results, such as average power dissipation and peak junction temperature of the devices.
