The technological evolution in telecommunications has made the mobile network ecosystem more dynamic and complex for mobile network operators (MNOs). The coexistence of versatile network technologies up to 5G, infrastructure and new architecture like Open RAN, plus the ongoing deployment of private networks has added still more complexity. At the same time, end-user quality of experience (QoE) is one of the main factors influencing customer churn and directly impacting the business of MNOs.
As technology group Rohde & Schwarz aptly puts it: Today’s relevant mobile network information and data can be obsolete tomorrow. MNOs need to be able to quickly and efficiently process data to maximize benefits.
The company’s answer? A new network benchmarking solution that takes cost, time and competitive pressures into account, reducing complexity and helping MNOs to make decisions about systematic and end-user-centric network improvements.
The Benchmarker 3 is Rohde & Schwarz’s third generation of its benchmarking hardware. Fully backward compatible with the company’s previous-generation Benchmarker 2, the new platform offers higher performance and a more compact design while also being lighter and consuming less power. Its modular concept also enables easy expansion, both for new installations and for existing systems.
Along with the launch of the new solution, Rohde & Schwarz is also introducing new smart end-to-end campaign automation management to automate multiple background tasks and orchestrate data collection, fleet management and post-processing. Cloud-based configurations are available to simplify recurring tasks and reduce operational expenses. Analytics get a boost, as well: The company’s SmartAnalytics suite has been outfitted with new features including automated insight and report generation, new data structures for long-term and historical trend analysis, and the ability to integrate machine-learning-assisted test use cases. It offers a seamless direct drill-down feature that navigates in a few clicks from a high-level view to an application view and down to lower layers, including the physical network layer. Users can retrieve single test samples from terabytes of data, identify root causes of failed test samples and understand QoE impacts.
All of this adds up to the ability to extract more value out of collected data in a shorter period of time than ever before.
In a press release, Rohde & Schwarz notes that its network benchmarking solutions are designed to empower mobile network operators and regulatory authorities across the globe to transparently and systematically assess and increase the quality and performance of mobile networks, in order to enhance the perceived quality for end users. The company will be showcasing the Benchmark 3 at MWC Barcelona later this month. In the meantime, readers can learn more on the company’s Network Benchmarking page.
