Video: Wing begins DoorDash drone delivery

10 November 2022

Wing, the drone arm of Alphabet, has signed another deal for drone delivery in its Australian test bed, this time with DoorDash.

Using the Wing delivery app, users in Logan, Australia, can order via the drone delivery service's third party apps — the first time this has been available.

Residents in Logan can order a range of convenience and grocery items, snacks and household essentials directly through the DoorDash App and have them delivered via a Wing drone in about 15 minutes or less. Initially it will be for a small number of households but will be expanded in the coming months.

The idea is to open up the drone delivery service to more residents through more apps and third parties, so it is easier to order through drone delivery.

This comes after Wing debuted what it claims is the first rooftop delivery system in Logan, Australia, and announced plans to begin its first rooftop delivery service in Europe earlier this month.

Wing made significant progress in drone deliveries last year, completing more than 140,000 deliveries, a 600% increase over 2020, with the majority of these flights taking place in Logan City, Australia. Since then, Wing has eclipsed the 300,000 threshold of commercial deliveries, making one delivery every 25 seconds.
