Sockets for LGA255 packages handle 94 GHz frequencies

06 January 2022

Ironwood Electronics has recently introduced a new land grid array (LGA) socket design using high performance elastomer capable of 94 GHz, very low inductance for test applications.

The GTP-LGA-1003 socket is designed for 17 mm x 17 mm package size, 16 x16 array, 1 mm pitch andSource: Ironwood ElectronicsSource: Ironwood Electronics operates at bandwidths up to 94 GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss. The contact resistance is typically 30 milliohms per pin. The socket is mounted on the target PCB with hardware and no soldering and uses very small real estate allowing capacitors/resistors to be placed close by. This socket utilizes swivel lid with heat sink compression screw. To use, place device inside the socket and apply compression by turning the heat sink screw.

The GTP-LGA-1003 socket is constructed with high performance and low inductance elastomer contactor with a protective layer to prevent elastomer contamination and solder migration. Since the cleaning of the protective layer is very simple, testing downtime is reduced significantly. The temperature range is -55° C to +160° C. The device works with ICs such as LGA255, 17 mm x17 mm, 16 x 16 array with 1 mm pitch.
