To accelerate the intelligent and connected transformation of the logistics industry, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has entered into a collaboration with Plus for autonomous trucking.

Goodyear will supply a suite of services including connected tires to improve the safety for semi-trucks powered by Plus’ Level 4 self-driving technology. This will also help to reduce the carbon impact.

Integrating intelligent tires into the autonomous system will improve the overall performance of these automated trucks in severe weather and extreme road conditions.

Plus recently completed an autonomous trip on China’s Yangtze Delta in its driverless Level 4 truck without a safety driver, teleoperator or any form of human intervention. Plus has also started deploying its autonomous solution, PlusDrive, to customers and is expected to start production of the FAW J7 Level 3 truck in the third quarter of 2021.

“Tires are the only thing on a vehicle that touches the ground and it’s this critical position that can help us enable future mobility solutions like autonomous transportation,” said Chris Helsel, SVP Global Operations and CTO of Goodyear.
