Earlier this month, Keysight Technologies announced a new compact system for bench testing with DC electronic loads, the EL30000 series. Electronic loads are used by device manufacturers and design engineers to test power sources: By presenting various resistances, responses can be measured. Testing possibilities include power supplies, batteries, battery modules, solar panels, fuel cells, LED drivers and power converters.
In addition to offering a compact bench form factor, the new device minimizes the need for additional instruments — a digital multimeter, external shunts and associated wiring — by accurately measuring voltage and current on one or two inputs. The built-in data logger can be used to characterize voltage, current, resistance and power over time. Higher current and power measurements can also be accommodated by combining two inputs into a single channel.

Source: Keysight TechnologiesThe EL30000 series supports static and dynamic tests to ensure that devices can handle both steady-state and occasional transient loads. Users can create a real-world dynamic load profile or a sudden transient, then use the scope view feature to capture the response. All settings and measurements appear on a large, 4.3 in color display.
Capabilities include:
- Measuring device under test (DUT) voltage and current accurately with a fully integrated voltmeter (up to 150 V) and ammeter (60 A or 120 A)
- Capturing measurements over time with a built-in data logger
- Saving data internally or to an external USB flash drive
- Creating, capturing and displaying fast transients with a dynamic load profile and built-in scope mode, reducing measurement setup complexity
- Simplifying tests with standard operating modes: constant voltage (CV), constant current (CC), constant resistance (CR) and constant power (CP)
- Connecting with USB, LAN (LXI Core) and optional general-purpose interface bus (GPIB) to easily measure, capture and display results
Two models are available: the single-input EL34143A (150 V, 60 A, 350 W) and the dual-input EL34243A (150 V, 60 A, 600 W).
