Avnet Inc. has released a system-on-module designed for developers working on applications for next-generation 5G connectivity.
The XRF16 module includes the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ radio frequency (RF) system-on-chip (SoC) and is a 16-channel transceiver module capable of RF direct conversion of waveforms with analogy bandwidth up to 5 GHz. The Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ RF SoC is a single-chip, adaptable radio platform, making it ideal for RF applications such as 5G massive multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) radio, phased array radar and multi-channel RF instrumentation.
Avnet said a comprehensive software suite is also available so developers can begin prototype and application development immediately and move to production with the same hardware, which will reduce time to market. Avnet said developers are turning to small-footprint, low-power solutions that support real-time processing for applications such as 5G MIMO, radar, beamforming and medical imaging.
The XRF16 includes analog-to-digital converters and digital-to-analog converters that operate at sampling rates of 2.22 GSPS and 6.554 GSPS on 16 channels. Digital connectivity is available for 100G Ethernet, peripheral component interconnect express (PCIe) and baseband processing and network interface handled by the Zynq UltraScale+ RF SoC integrated quad ARM Cortex-A53 processing subsystem and programmable logic.
Standard peripherals are included in the XRF16 such as USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and serial universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART).
