Knectek Labs is looking to make the handling of garbage easier and less stinky with a self-sealing, self-changing, hands-free offering called Townew, which will debut at CES 2020.

The smart trash can was a CES Innovation Award honoree for its ability to eliminate odors with a built-in thermoplastic sealing component that automatically closes the trash bag. By pressing a button, the smart trash can also self-changes the trash bag.

The trash can features infrared sensing that allows for hands-free opening and closing of the lid. The trash can will also let users know if more garbage can be added to the bag or if the bag is in danger of overflowing. The device runs on a 2,000 mAh rechargeable battery that will last a full month on a 10-hour charge.

“Creating a 100% recyclable refill ring that contains 25 durable trash bags each holding 15.5 L, Townew kept the eco-conscious consumer in mind here by using HDPE material meaning you save time and the environment,” said William Wong, head of sales at Knectek Labs. “Whether you’re throwing leftover sloppy-joes or stinky diapers nothing will escape the moisture and water-resistant sealing capability of this trash can.”
