CES 2020: Here Mobility offers an alternative to Uber and Lyft

06 January 2020

Here Mobility will kick off 2020 with more than 700 supply and demand partners across the globe, which saved over 1 million kilometers driven worldwide by the end of 2019.

The company has more than 2.5 million signed vehicles in its Here Mobility Marketplace, which is available in more than 100 major cities worldwide. The company is using CES 2020 as a platform for getting the word out about its mobility-as-a-service alternative to the more widely known Lyft and Uber.

The Mobility Marketplace provides a competitive and open system where regional suppliers compete with ride-sharing companies such as Uber and Lyft by showing consumers optimized routes and minimizing the time drivers spend looking for customers. The marketplace is a cloud-based platform for businesses to connect to customers on a single multi-modal platform and it includes taxis, private hires, scooters, public transportation and more. Businesses can access the Mobility Marketplace via a concierge service or self-serve kiosks, connecting customers and employees with possible transportation options in real-time. The marketplace grew 200% in North America and 100% in Europe last year.

Liad Itzhak, senior VP and head of Here Mobility, told Electronics360 that ride-sharing giants Uber and Lyft have monopolized a portion of the ride-sharing market by subsidizing rides, undercutting regional mobility suppliers’ prices and making it hard for other vendors to compete. Additionally, these companies have worsened congestion issues in many cities adding more vehicles to the roads.

“We are tackling both of these issues by democratizing the mobility ecosystem, empowering the remaining majority of the market — the mobility suppliers who don’t have the resources that ridesharing giants have — to be more competitive,” Itzhak said. “Our technological solutions drive mobility efficiency, optimizing routes and encouraging more sustainable practices to cut unnecessary driven kilometers.”

In 2020, Here Mobility plans to continue to expand into other regions including Europe, Latin America, further into the U.S. and potentially Asia Pacific, Itzhak said.

“Our aim is to democratize the mobility ecosystem by empowering regional mobility suppliers and to drive people to choose more sustainable, efficient mobility options,” Itzhak said. “We are continuously growing the number of supply and demand partners signed with the Mobility Marketplace worldwide in order to reach more individuals and provide more mobility suppliers with an even playing field.”

Companies partner with Here in order to offer customers end-to-end service for transportation in the likelihood they will visit that business. Supply partners reach a larger audience by being in the ecosystem and ultimately make it easier to compete with Lyft and Uber.

CES 2020 takes place Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas.
