Avnet forms alliance to bolster security for industrial IoT

11 September 2019

Avnet has entered into a partnership with Trusted Objects, a security software internet of things (IoT) vendor, to bring scalable end-to-end security to IoT devices.

The deal will allow Avnet customers to secure devices while simultaneously speeding up time to market, reducing costs and managing complexity. Avnet said the partnership will help solve the fragmentation challenge faced by developers seeking to secure IoT deployments in three areas: cloud, middleware and on-device.

Security is managed by separate providers, which is particularly challenging in low-power devices that are commonly used in industrial IoT (IIoT) applications. The software is embedded in a customer's microcontroller unit (MCU) or secure element, and Avnet can help connect it to the cloud as part of a complete IoT solution, Avnet said.

The IIoT solutions can be secured by embedding three core elements of the software into a customer’s MCU or secure element. The first of these elements is a native proprietary implementation embedded into an MCU or secure element for high levels of security. Second is Trusted Objects' security stacks that allow for secure connectivity between the device, the IoT network and the cloud. The third element is the personalization technology that allows Avnet to perform IoT personalization to scale engineering solutions.
