Sprint has turned on its 5G network in an additional four cities, claiming to now have the largest initial 5G coverage footprint in the U.S.
The cities include areas in Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington D.C. They join cities including areas of Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Kansas City, Missouri, and Chicago that already have 5G service.
Sprint said that its 5G service now covers approximately 2,100 square miles. The company expects to cover about 11 million people in total across all nine market areas in the coming weeks.
Additionally, Sprint has turned on its Hatch mobile cloud gaming for 5G smartphones to take advantage of 5G’s faster speed and lower latency. The company has recently performed download speed tests through Ookla showing an average 5G download speed of 203.8 Mbps that is nearly six times faster than the average LTE download speed of 35.2 Mbps.
In the future, new experiences for 5G will emerge for a variety of industries including energy, healthcare, manufacturing, finance, insurance, transportation, hospitality and more, Sprint said.
