Hackster.io, a division of Avnet Inc., has released the schematics and parts needed to build a DIY Raspberry Pi-based underwater unmanned autonomous vehicle (UAV) that can be used in the aquaculture market.
The underwater vehicle can be used to continuously monitor aquaculture behaviors such as water quality, temperature, pressure, pH value and more.
Fish farming is one of the fastest growing sectors in the food industry, but there are issues with farmers losing investment and crops due to disease. Monitoring the water quality to detect the need for adjustments is becoming more important to secure investment and ensure the quality of the fish being grown in the farms.
The UAV is powered by a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, a PX4 Pixhawk and Arduino Mega 2560 and Genuino Mega 2560 command boards. PX4 QGroundControl is used as the controlling thrusters on the underwater UAV.
