Now a coffee table can charge your smartphone

05 April 2019

Wireless charging of smart devices has become ubiquitous in a variety of different forms from pads to docking stations and everything in between.

A wireless charging startup known as Mili has a new way of integrating charging technology for businesses and home users inside furniture.

Furniture Mate is a wireless charging module that uses electromagnetic induction technology to charge up to 10 W through furniture. The platform can be integrated into a number of different types of décor and furniture. The wireless charging furniture is equipped with wired charging capabilities as well and a USB interface for additional charging capabilities.

Mili said the wireless charging transmitter does not need additional modifications to the furniture to enable wireless charging as it rests underneath any non-metal surface with a reusable adhesive material. The transmitter is not permanently attached to the table and can be moved or reapplied if needed.

Magnetic resonance technology is used to charge a phone with up to 5 W of power wirelessly within the range of 35 mm. Table Mate, another charging product from Mili that gets attached to office or home tables, offers Qi-wireless charging with an all-wireless charging standard for more than 100 Qi-compatible smartphones.
