Discrete semiconductor and passive electronic components manufacturer Vishay Intertechnology Inc. will highlight a number of its latest technologies at APEC 2019, the applied power electronics conference that runs Mach 17-21, 2019, in Anaheim, California.

These include:

Metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs)

  • Increased-efficiency MOSFETs: According to Vishay, the SiR626DP is a 60 V Gen IV n-channel TrenchFET MOSFET fine-tuned to minimize conduction losses, resulting in increased efficiency for power conversion topologies. The device combines a maximum on-resistance down to 1.7 milliohms (mΩ) at 10 V with ultra-low gate charge of 52 nC, output charge of 68 nC and output capacitance (COSS) of 992 pF. Compared to previous generation devices, it offers on-resistance lower by 36%; gate charge times on-resistance and output charge times on-resistance figure of merits (FOMs) lower by 32% and 45%, respectively; and COSS lower by 69%. Applications include synchronous rectification in AC/DC topologies; primary- and secondary-side switching in isolated DC/DC topologies for solar micro-inverters and telecom, server and medical equipment power supplies; motor drive control in power tools and industrial equipment; and battery switching in battery management modules. Available in 6.15 mm by 5.15 mm PowerPAK SO-8 single package.
  • Space-saving automotive-grade MOSFETs: The PowerPAK SO-8L package of the Vishay Siliconix -30 V SQJ407EP and -40 V SQJ409EP features gullwing leads for increased board-level reliability and, compared to devices in the DPAK, offers more than a 50% reduction in mounting area. With a 5 mm by 6 mm footprint, these p-channel TrenchFET MOSFETs are designed to deliver low on-resistance for motor drives and mains power supplies in 12 V automotive systems.715xxKT series capacitors. Capacitors

  • Long-life, miniaturized screw-terminal aluminum capacitors: Vishay BC components 501 PGM series devices offer a life of 5,000 hours at 85° C. Available in case sizes ranging from 50 mm by 80 mm to 90 mm by 195 mm, with rated voltages from 400 V to 500 V and maximum ESR down to 13 mW. Applications include solar inverters, UPS and energy storage in medical and industrial pulse systems.
  • High-current, ceramic screw-mounting disc capacitors: Vishay’s 715CxxKT series capacitors offer low AC and DC coefficients, voltages to 50 kilovolt direct current (kVDC, 34 kilovolt root mean square (kVRMS)) and negligible piezoelectric and electrostrictive effects. Designed to function in circuits with high peak current and high repetition rates, the capacitors are optimized for high-frequency coupling and decoupling, laser excitation and fast-repetition pulse circuitry. Applications include high voltage power supplies, CO2 lasers and X-ray and welding equipment.
  • Compact-size, radial-leaded high-voltage single layer ceramic disc capacitors: Vishay Roederstein HVCC series capacitors eliminate the need to utilize two 1 nF capacitors in parallel by delivering high capacitance values of 2 nF. For designers, this can save space, reduce assembly costs and increase reliability. Applications include high-voltage generators for dental and baggage scanners, medical/industrial X-rays and pulsed lasers.
  • High-humidity suppression film capacitors: Vishay BC components F340X1 480VAC, F340Y2 305VAC and F340X2 305VAC series are qualified to IEC 60384-14: 2013/AMD1: 2016 grade IIB. The devices withstand temperature humidity bias (THB) testing of 85° C, 85% residential heat (RH) for 1,000 hours at rated voltage, offering high stability on capacitance, insulation resistance and dissipation factors.

  • Chip divider: The Vishay Techno CDMM is a high-voltage chip divider offered in a ribbed molded package with compliant surface-mount leads. Designed to reduce component counts and improve TC tracking performance and ratio stability in automotive and industrial equipment, the device delivers a maximum working voltage of 1,500 V in the 4527 case size.
  • Lug sensors: Offering a rugged construction, Vishay BC components AEC-Q200 qualified NTCALUG91A series NTC thermistors feature a ring tongue terminal for easy mounting and are available with M4, M5 and M6 screw mounting options. The devices offer resistance at 25° C (R25) of 10 KW with tolerance down to ± 2%, and beta (B25/85) from 3435 K to 3984 K with tolerance down to ± 0.5%. Designed for accurate temperature sensing in automotive applications.
  • Metal oxide varistors (MOVs): Vishay BC components VDRUS series is certified for operation up to 125° C in accordance with UL 1449 Edition 4, VDE/IEC 61051-1/2. Designed to provide overvoltage and transient voltage protection in high-temperature consumer goods and industrial applications, the series offers a 30% higher surge current capability (up to 13 kA) than previous-generation devices.
  • Power resistors: Featuring thick film deposited on ceramic, Vishay MCB RCEC 850 series resistors deliver high power ratings to 850 W. Cooled by auxiliary heatsink, the series offers a cold system without external radiation and easy assembly with self-calibrated pressure. It can be configured with two or three resistors.
  • Rectifiers: Vishay Semiconductors 30 A and 60 A rectifiers are fast recovery epitaxial diodes (FRED) Pt Gen5 1,200 V hyperfast and ultrafast devices designed to reduce conduction and switching losses. According to Vishay, they are a cost-effective alternative for applications with frequencies below 50 kHz, offering up to 15% greater efficiency than competing silicon solutions and cutting the efficiency gap of SiC diodes in half. They are optimized for PFC and output rectification stages for EV/HEV battery charging stations, as well as booster stages for solar inverters and UPS and welding applications.
