STMicroelectronics Licenses Mears Silicon Technology from Atomera

04 October 2018

STMicroelectronics has signed a licensing agreement with Atomera Inc. for its mears silicon technology (MST), which the company will integrate into its semiconductors.

MST is a quantum-engineered material that enhances transistor performance in electronics. This allows consumer electronics devices, such as smartphones, to have a longer battery life, internet of things (IoT) devices to be made smaller or cloud computing to be more powerful, Atomera said.

The patented MST material enables more efficient and better controlled current flow, leading to improvements in device performance and efficiency. Atomera said this helps address a manufacturer's yield, power and performance challenges at a fraction of the cost of alternative options.
