A new API solution from Pusher helps developers add cloud-hosted messaging services to their mobile and web apps. The Pusher Chatkit API and SDK let developers build several different chat features. The product aims to lighten developers’ load: For example, game app builders can quickly add various features such as player-to-player chat or create a collaborative tool for users to communicate efficiently. ChatKit is the first standalone product Pusher has launched since its founding in 2011.
The new product provides developers with building blocks that can help them focus on creating their own products. Chatkit’s features include granular user roles and permissions as well as private and public chat rooms, typing indicators, message history, online presence and automatic reconnection.
Building chat from the ground up can be challenging; the Chatkit API and SDK aim to reduce the amount of work necessary to add chat functionality to an app or service. More than 5,000 developers including GoGuardian, YouNow, Slaask and FreshDesk use Pusher’s existing API to add chat functionalities to their apps.
