MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. has launched a development kit to accelerate product designs incorporating gallium nitride (GaN)-based radio frequency (RF) energy sources.
The kit could be used to create a wide range of applications, including cooking, lighting, industrial heating/drying, medical/pharmaceutical, automotive ignition systems and more.
The RF Energy Toolkit allows designers to fine tune RF energy output levels to maximize efficiency and performance. The kit combines MACOM’s GaN-on-silicon (Si) power transistors with software and signal control capabilities in order to produce faster time-to-market and design.
MACOM claims the GaN-on-Si power transistors inside the toolkit deliver up to 10 percent greater power efficiency compared to laterally diffused metal-oxide-semiconductor (LDMOS)-based transistors. The toolkit supports coherent channel operation allowing multiple RF energy channels to be combined.
The Beta version of the RF Energy Toolkit is available now.
