WD says the technology will allow for innovative SSDs with lower power consumption and higher performance, endurance and capacities. The WD Blue 3-D NAND SATA SSD is targeted at DIY tinkerers, resellers and system builders looking to add flash-based drives to their designs. The drive boasts 1.75M hours of mean time to failure (MTTF) and consumers can download free tools such as WD’s cloning software called Acronis True Image and capacity and performance monitoring software called SSD Dashboard.
Meanwhile, the Ultra 3-D SSD from WD’s SanDisk brand is intended for use by gaming and creative designers that want to improve PC performance with a drop-in upgrade.
The Blue 3-D NAND SATA SSD and SanDisk Ultras 3-D SSDs will be available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities with availability starting in the third quarter of this year.
