The 960GB G Series achieves up to 2400 terabytes written (TBW) while the 480GB drive can reach 1200 TBW, resulting in less frequent replacement and increase return on investment, Sony says.

The ability to use a SSD with video recording devices allows professional media to be removed from a recorder and connected to a computer for file downloading, editing and faster read speeds up to 500MB/sec.

In terms of security, the G Series offers data protection technology to keep content secure and intact even in the event of a power failure. Sony says the connector can withstand extreme repeated insertion and removal up to 3,000 times — six times more than standard SATA connectors — and can withstand harsh conditions.

The SSD G Series is planned to be available in May 2017 priced at $539 for the 960 GB version and $287 for the 480 GB version.
