Dialog Semiconductor PLC has added ambient light and color sensor controls to its smart lighting platform to bring natural light environments to light-emitting diode (LED) light fixtures.
The addition of light and color sensor controls is the result of the collaboration between Dialog and Dyna Image. They recently announced a joint venture to combine their core technologies in order to bring complete platform solutions to market.
The collaboration has already brought to market a wearable reference design for fitness bands that integrates Dyna Image’s all-in-one optical heart rate monitor and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) accelerometer with Dialog’s Bluetooth system-on-chip and sensor fusion software.
Dialog says that by integrating color sensing with Dialog, tuneable-white driver LED lamps are able to change their color temperature automatically from cold (blue-white) to warm (amber) in tune with whatever ambient environment a user wishes. One such application could be auto-tuning lamps that work to consistently provide a pleasant light experience in the home or workplace.
Another application could be to replicate an outdoor color temperature inside a building or home, creating a natural light experience that would help stimulate a human’s circadian rhythm—something experts believe produces health benefits.
