Bluetooth-Connected License Plate Frame Helps Avoid Parking Grief

25 May 2016

Though cars are becoming more and more connected with a goal of assisting every aspect of the driving process, a consumer electronics company decided it would unveil an easy-to-use technology to help drivers park without bumps, dents and potential injuries.

FenSens is a patent-pending Bluetooth-enabled parking system that includes the FenSens smart license plate frame and an accompanying mobile application for Android and iOS. The system can be installed just like any other license plate frame in less than five minutes and without any wiring (instead it runs on a battery that lasts up to five months).

Current alternatives can be costly or include a great deal of wiring, which can be difficult and messy.

How It Works

After the Bluetooth-enabled smart license plate frame is installed with just four security screws and the mobile application is downloaded, the application will automatically launch when you reverse your vehicle.

The system works without even having to remove your phone from your pocket due to an incorporated accelerometer that detects the car’s backward motion in real-time and streams it between the license plate and the phone.

The mobile application provides audio and vibrational alerts, along with a visual display, to alert the driver when an object, such as another car, is detected in the car’s rear blind spot.

“We believe this great technology hasn’t been adopted because it’s either too expensive or much too complicated for the average driver to get value out of it,” said Andy Karuza, CEO at FenSens. “We decided to do something about it by focusing on delivering the best possible user experience that technology allows. Last time I bought a 'self-install kit,' it sat on the shelves, never to be used; nobody wants a product that doesn’t work right out of the box these days.”

The premium FenSens will cost $150, but currently the company is running an early-bird special on its website, so buyers can snag one for $99.
