Connected vehicle startup Parkopedia is collaborating with parking operator OPnGO, a division of Indigo Group, to bring a smart parking service to Europe.

The smart parking program will provide in-car parking reservation and payment services in France, Spain and Belgium. OPnGO, a digital parking service, uses location-based service to automatically detect parking areas and then enables drivers to find parking spaces, compare prices, prepay and obtain unique discounts.

With number plate recognition technology, drivers can enter and exit car parks without requiring a ticket or needing to stop at a pay station.

The OPnGO parking reservations will be integrated into Parkopedia’s consumer apps and in-car solutions for 220 car parks in France, Spain and Belgium with servers to be rolled out across the Indigo portfolio soon.

“This partnership with Parkopedia will allow numerous drivers to benefit from our license plate recognition technology,” said Pascale Bonnard, MD of OPnGO. “They will have an easier and seamless parking experience while having access to all our parking services through in-car display, which guarantees a safer and easier experience.”
