A 1/3-inch format image sensor, OmniVision's OV9755 features a relatively large 3.75-micron pixel size, for excellent low-light sensitivity. Image source: OmniVision Technologies, IncOmniVision Technologies, Inc. has announced a new high definition (HD) image sensor for mainstream security, smart home and Internet protocol (IP) cameras.
Security applications in particular must be able to produce good video performance under a broad range of lighting conditions. Built on the company's OmniPixel3-HS technology, the 1/3-inch format OV9755 features a relatively large 3.75-micron pixel size, which OmniVision credits with delivering high-quality 720p HD images and video, even when recording in low-light situations.
OmniVision says the OV9755 records 1280 x 720 progressive-scan HD video at 60 frames per second (FPS), or 640 x 480 resolution VGA video at 90 FPS under widely varying lighting conditions. Additionally, the 1/3-inch sensor supports a "system wake-up trigger" and low-power mode, which allows the camera to begin operation while consuming minimal power (approximately 100mW).
The OV9755 is currently in volume production.
