China-based Hua Hong Semiconductor Ltd. is partnering with Chinese chipmaker Lexvu Opto Microelectronics Technology Co. Ltd. for a small integrated barometer targeted at consumer devices and white good appliances.
Dubbed the PS3606, the barometer integrates Hua Hong's microelectromechanical system (MEMS) manufacturing technology with Lexvu's single-chip sensor. With a total thickness of 0.45 mm, the single-chip CMOS-MEMS integrated barometer is offered with wafer level packaging aimed at electronic applications such as smartphones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), air cleaners and intelligent wearables.
The PS3606 will utilize Hua Hong's 200mm manufacturing technology and will include a high accuracy, stable system and strong anti-jamming capabilities, according to the companies. The chip is now sampling, with volume production planned for the second half of 2015.
Dr. Fu Cheng, executive vice president at Hua Hong, said in a statement that MEMS sensors were increasingly “penetrating into Internet of Vehicles (IoV), smart home, smart city" and the Internet of Things (IoT), and that “China has become the most rapidly growing MEMS market in the world.”
As a result, Hua Hong has upgraded its MEMS process technology to enable a new level of feature size for these future devices, Cheng said.
