Taiwan-based MStar Semiconductor Inc. has integrated its latest set-top box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) product into Irdeto’s FlexiCore Processing technology.
MStar is the first company to implement the FlexiCore Processing technology, bringing more features to Irdeto’s Cloaked CA and smart card CAS products. The jointly developed hardware security platform will provide an upgradable security core to MStar’s STB SoC. The added security core will provide pat TV customers with content protection to help grow their business as well as adapt for future iterations.
“With the evolution of media piracy and licensing rights in today’s media landscape, it is important for both MStar and Irdeto to provide pay TV operators with a secure, renewable and updatable media protection that helps them quickly respond to new threats and ensure rapid recoverability,” Peter Oggel, Vice President of Product Management at Irdeto, said in a statement.
Irdeto gives over-the-top service providers and content owners the ability to protect pay TV content through semiconductor offerings. Irdeto’s other customers include Astro, Comcast, Liberty Global, Foxtel, Orange TV, OCN and Videocon d2h.
Dennis Lai, sales vice president of the STB Business Unit at MStar, said in a statement the FlexiCore Processing and Cloaked CA “are important building blocks for a robust security platform with upgradable possibilities.”
