AOS Rolls Out Smart Load Switch

08 August 2014

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) has added a high current smart load switch to its power semiconductor portfolio designed with a rapid turn-off fault protection and current monitoring.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said the switch would work well for space-constrained applications that require circuit protection such as notebook PCs, hot swap suppliers and micro servers.

The switch, called the AOZ1363, incorporates several safety functions to effectively manage and monitor application loads, according to Alpha and Omega. These features include an internal current limiting circuit, a thermal protection function that limits excessive power dissipation, the ability to communicate load information in real time, over-current fault detection, input overvoltage protection and more.

"The combination of smart functions, wider input voltage range, low on-resistance, and a thermally enhanced compact DFN package enables the AOZ1363 to achieve exceptional performance, making it a distinctive and ideal load switch for a variety of space-constrained applications" said Daniel Chang, Vice President of the Power IC Product Line at AOS, in a statement.

The AOZ1363 is available now in production with a lead-time of 12 weeks priced at $3.75 in 1,000 unit quantities.
