An overhead industrial picking robot that eliminates the need for static, floor equipment has been developed by an autonomous, data-driven logistics solutions firm.
The Octopus from Logic, is a ceiling-mounted system designed for high-speed case handling that is suspended from above existing workflows. There, the Octopus autonomously picks, lifts and transfers cased goods without taking up aisle space, thereby enabling warehouses and logistics hubs to rededicate the floor to storage density, people and flow.

Unlike single robotic arms with just one dominant tool, the Octopus is a configurable, multi-arm platform capable of being populated with any combination of suction cups, clamps, grippers and specialized end effectors, the company explained.
Further, the Octopus robot uses multiple independently controlled arms capable of handling assorted products and package types at once, thus enabling simultaneous picking and placement across mixed loads. Because all tools operate concurrently, it eliminates downtime from mechanical changeovers and maintains high throughput. The Octopus is designed for easy integration into both existing warehouses and new facilities.
Taking what was once unproductive overhead volume into a productive automation layer that can serve dock doors, inspection points, storage zones or cross-dock lanes, the Octopus turns static loading areas into intelligent interaction hubs, where goods arrive, they are automatically handled and then moved onto their next location without manual repalletizing or intermediate staging.
The Octopus works in conjunction with Logic Pallets — which are autonomous mobile platforms that deliver and position loads underneath the robot — thus creating a true goods-to-robot system wherein movement and picking are handled separately for greater efficiency. This coordination, the company explained, is managed by the LINK platform, which integrates data from robots, pallets and sensors to verify each action in real time, improving accuracy and traceability.
Together, Octopus and Logic Pallets create a unified automation system that supports multiple warehouse functions — from sorting and staging to inspection and fulfillment — without requiring reconfiguration, offering a flexible, space-efficient solution for scaling operations.
