Everspin Technologies Inc., a memory maker specializing in Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) technology, has made a 10-year strategic agreement with Microchip Technology to expand domestic U.S. production capacity and long-term memory supply.
Under the deal, Microchip will help Everspin augment its domestic U.S. manufacturing capacity for MRAM and tunnel magnetoresistive (TMR) sensor products. Microchip will establish an MRAM line to manufacture MRAM memory and TMR sensors at its fabrication facility in Oregon.
Everspin will retain ownership of the intellectual property and manufacturing process.
“Everspin is expanding its manufacturing footprint to support the next phase of MRAM adoption, as customers look for both long-term supply stability and higher-density, more capable solutions,” said Sanjeev Aggarwal, president and CEO at Everspin. “Our partnership with Microchip adds the production scale to support demand while continuing to advance our MRAM roadmap.”
The company said the agreement will have several benefits including:
- Increased wafer capacity
- On-shore second source for MRAM and TMR sensor
- Continued supply into the next decade
- R&D opportunities for new use cases
- International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) wafer processing capabilities
Everspin said it will continue to manufacture MRAM and TMR sensors in its Chandler, Arizona, facility co-located at NXP Semiconductors. It will use its experience from the Chandler fab as a benchmark for production at Microchip’s Oregon facility. First products from the agreement are slated to begin in the second half of 2027.
