SiFive has launched its second-generation family of RISC-V-based timing products designed to accelerate AI workloads.
This includes two new products, dubbed X160 Gen 2 and X180 Gen 2, as well as upgraded X280 Gen2, X390 Gen 2 and XM Gen 2 products.
These timing products include enhanced scalar, vector and XM matrix processing capabilities to work with modern AI devices.
The X160 Gen 2 and X180 Gen 2 timing products are targeted at internet of things (IoT) and edge compute applications. The products have a compact footprint and deliver AI functionality to the deeply embedded edge. Applications these devices could be used in include:
- Autonomous robots
- Automotive
- Industrial automation
- Smart IoT
“AI is catalyzing the next era of the RISC-V revolution,” said Patrick Little, CEO of SiTime. “We're seeing strong traction including the use of the new X100 series by two Tier 1 U.S. semiconductor companies. Our new 2nd Generation Intelligence IP builds on this momentum, adding new features and configurability to advance our customers designs and time to market.”
Backing this up is a report from Deloitte that predicts about 20% of AI workload growth is expected in every tech environment. In edge computing, it will be 78%.
“SiFive is investing to take advantage of the tremendous growth that is occurring in edge AI compute, innovating in markets that need more focus and optionality,” said Pat Moorhead, founder, CEO and chief analyst of Moor Insights and Strategy. “The new SiFive Intelligence Gen 2 products bring several novel features that could solve real customer problems and bring solid solutions with unique methods of performance and efficiency.”
