Engineered for extremes: HBK’s MV7-AR sets a new standard for ruggedized IMUs

09 October 2025

A new inclinometer from Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK) is expected to uniquely advance the safety, stability and performance of vehicles and equipment in sectors like heavy construction, off-highway mining and agriculture and farming.

The MV7-AR is a groundbreaking 6 DOF gyro-stabilized inclinometer, which delivers precise measurements of dynamic inclination, acceleration and angular rate — even in the most challenging environments.

Using a sophisticated Auto-Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), the MV7-AR removes errors that areSource: HBKSource: HBK usually associated with vibration, sudden linear motions and quake.

This outstanding accuracy gives engineers and drivers new peace of mind during high-vibration operations, allowing them to make timely, effective decisions to protect safety, productivity and efficiency.

Built for the toughest jobs in the toughest environments

In addition to the Auto-Adaptive EKF filter, the MV7-AR also uses state-of-the-art temperature compensation and calibration. As a result, the inclinometer offers accuracy of 0.25° RMS at temperatures ranging from –40° C to 85° C.

This accuracy is reinforced by the MV7-AR’s ruggedized construction. Fully sealed in an IP68/IP69K-rated casing, it delivers complete reliability, even when:

  • Fully immersed in water
  • Subjected to pressure washing
  • Dropped from a height of 1 m
  • Subjected to 50 g shocks or rigorous vibration

This makes the MV7-AR ideal for use in the most challenging outdoor environments. Engineers and drivers can work through snow, ice, rain, heat or excessive vibration — and still be certain that their inclinometer is delivering accurate data.

Streamlined integration

The MV7-AR is also designed so that engineers can deploy it quickly and easily, so that it can deliver outstanding results rapidly and with minimal disruption.

At just 107 g and 78.9 mm × 55.0 mm × 23.5 mm, the unit fits into compact footprints with ease, in any orientation.

It uses the industry-standard SAE J1939 communication protocol, and has a power range of 4.5 V DC to 36 V DC, making it compatible with a huge range of vehicles and applications.

Reliable results every time — especially when accuracy is essential

The MV7-AR delivers game-changing performance in applications such as:

Heavy construction: Used for platform leveling, boom/bucket angle control, auto-grading and operator safety.

Agriculture and farming: Used for auto-steer, implement control, terrain following and field navigation.

Mining and off-highway vehicles: Used for load monitoring, stability analysis and predictive maintenance.

With the MV7-AR, HBK is empowering engineers worldwide to build smarter, safer more reliable vehicles and equipment — no matter their environment.
