Apple unveils M3 Ultra processor for Macs

Apple Inc. has unveiled the M3 Ultra processor, a CPU and GPU combo that includes double the neural engine cores and links two M3 Max dies over 10,000 connections.

The M3 Ultra also includes Apple’s Thunderbolt 5 with 2x bandwidth per port and UltraFusion packaging architecture with 184 billion transistors.

Other features include:

  • 32 cores
  • 24 performance cores
  • Eight efficiency cores
  • 1.5x performance upgrade from M2 Ultra
  • Up to 512 GB of memory
  • Largest GPU of any Apple chip

Graphics

The GPU inside the M3 Ultra includes up to 80 graphics cores that bring up to 2x faster performance than the M2 Ultra and up to 2.6x faster than the M1 Ultra. The architecture features dynamic cashing, accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing.

The 32-core neural engine is the AI and machine learning component for use of generative AI on devices.
